NZ Adult Fiction

“It is all about vision beyond seeing.”

Rose Gillander has had two marriages to good men who were ambitious and somewhat self-absorbed. There has not been much room for the sort of love she craves.
Now aged eighty-five, sensible, reserved Rose has lost most of her sight and is living in Ferndale Rest Home, where she misses her books more than her departed husbands. She has few expectations that the remainder of her days will be any more exciting than those that have gone before until, against her instincts, she is coerced into accepting a ticket to a concert, not realising it will not simply be an orchestra she is about to experience.
As the day progresses, Rose gets to know one of her fellow residents and to her great surprise discovers a connection, not only with the music. As new possibilities open up, Rose realises that finally she can see clearly. Living life to the full, it turns out, depends neither on age nor on the sharpness of one’s sight.
