The stunning wordless story of a brave little boat's voyage.

A little boat sets out to sea and begins its voyage toward home. To get there it must travel across many strange, beautiful oceanscapes, full of fantastic creatures and deadly monsters, swept by terrifying storms and sailed by mysterious ships. Can the Wanderer pick a path through all these perils to a safe harbour?

This beautifully illustrated, wordless picture book is a gateway into a captivating marine fantasy world.

Jem & Lucy Bailey's Review:

The Wanderer is a masterpiece debut from artist (and nature guide in the Cayman Islands!) Peter Van Den Ende. Completely textless, The Wanderer is an expansive sea journey, following a small seafarer in their folded paper boat. Every page is filled to the brim with astonishingly detailed images featuring a myriad of fantastic sea creatures (my personal favourites are a swarm of jellyfish, and two cuddling seals nestled in the corner of a bustling scene).

With incredibly delicate lines, Peter Van Den Ende demonstrates impeccable rendering, and manages to make black and white illustrations vibrant and full of life. His love of nature and the ocean is evident - his instagram is a delightful mix of his art and nature photography.

A real treat to explore with the little ones...although at 96 pages, don't expect a quick bedtime read! Although this book is textless, this usually means there is a whole lot of story to be told - you just have to find it yourself. Older readers, including adults, can just dive in and float through the fabulous scenes Peter Van Den Ende has created.

Product Information

'Wonderfully strange and strangely wonderful... an epic dream' - Shaun Tan, author of The Arrival

Peter Van den Ende finds inspiration for his ideas in his own life. He transforms the things he admires, experiences and desires into a highly imaginative alternative version of reality in his detailed drawings. He loves connotation and symbolism, and although he has an explanation for everything he draws, he prefers his readers to come up with their own interpretations. His stories are intended to amaze people of all ages.
