LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON

Alex Cross

The brilliant DC detective who never gives up on a case.

Ali Cross
The tenacious kid who's determined to follow in his father's footsteps.

The case that finally gives him a chance
Ali knows Gabe Qualls better than anyone, so when his friend goes missing, Ali jumps right into action. Being Alex Cross's son has taught him the skills he needs to solve the mystery- intelligence, persistence, and logic. One thing he didn't inherit? Patience.

Because Ali knows that with every day that passes without the police finding Gabe, the less likely it is that he'll ever be found. And being Alex Cross's son, he refuses to accept those odds.

Ruth's Review:

Ali Cross is a chip off the old block. His dad is Alex Cross, Patterson's famous and most dogged detective, and Ali is determined to follow in Dad's footsteps.

When his friend Gabe goes missing, Ali is convinced the police are not doing enough to find him and sets off on his own investigative path that includes finding clues in his favourite online game Outpost. Meanwhile, a string of burglaries in the neighbourhood could be linked to Gabe's disappearance and Ali's impulsiveness leads him into some hairy situations. Alex tries to keep his son in check but, with a charge of assault hanging over him and the press hounding the family every time they venture out, he has quite enough on his plate.

Ali is a great new kid sleuth whose exploits will appeal to readers aged 9 to 12. A bit hot-headed and single-minded, nevertheless he cares about justice and I'm sure there will be more adventures in store for him.

In other fictional detective family dynasties, Harlan Coben created a series for young adults about Mickey Bolitar, the nephew of his adult detective character Myron Bolitar, and Wilbur Smith has a thriller publishing in March, Cloudburst, that features teen Jack Courtney, whose famous forebears have starred in 18 adult novels that span two centuries.
